We all know that dogs can be very mischievous so it’s important to make sure your home is a safe place for them. Dogs love to be playful and sometimes snoop into our belongings, so be prepared for these situations can keep your dog safe. There are many ways to ensure that your dog will be safe in your home while you are away, so being aware of these tips can ensure your dog’s safety.

Here are 5 ways to dog-proof your house:

Organize Your Mess

Dogs love to chew on anything they can get their paws on, but some dogs more often than others. Remembering this tip is very important because organizing your home can avoid any potential chewing mishaps of your belongings. Not only should you store away your small possessions, but the larger ones as well so that they are out of reach for your dog. Most importantly, you should make sure that your medications and all other medicines are stored properly because this could make your dog sick.

Restricted Room Access

Some dogs are more curious than others and love to explore different rooms of your home while you are away. Like many dogs, some cannot control their bladder and may have an accident inside your house. This is why you should close or lock the doors so that your dog does not have access to this area. Installing baby-safe locks is also an option you can look into.

Use Baby-proof Options

Just like small children, dogs are very curious creatures and love to explore new environments. This can even become dangerous at times because who knows where your dog will wander when you are not home. Baby-proofing your house is also a way to dog-proof your house. Although it may take some to properly dog-proof your house the results are well worth it. One of the great ways to dog-proof your house is by covering the power strips and installing safety locks.

Consider Crate Training

If your dog is constantly getting into trouble crate training could be a great option for you, especially if you work throughout the week. Crate training takes time, but it will help ensure that your home stays intact.

Invest in a Pull Out Trash Can

Dogs are very curious animals and love to explore everything and anything they can find in your home and this includes your trash can. Investing in pull-out trash can help avoid health risks such as intestinal blockage. If investing in a pull-out trash can is too much of an investment, make sure to keep it out of sight. We all know not to go messing around with the trash, but our dogs would think otherwise.
