6 Last Minute Tips Before Halloween Celebrations

Many people in the US are ready for Halloween celebrations, and that includes dressing up your pup. Our dogs, for the most part, tolerate costumes, but they do prefer wearing their natural hairy suits. Therefore, to spice things up, they will be wearing some festive bows for the occasion.

Our Emma, although she is adventurous and loves to explore, she is not a fan of strange things, screaming, or noise. These are common ingredients of Halloween festivities. We will be keeping her and her siblings safe at home – each of them tucked in their own forts (crates).

For those of you who decide to take their pups for a walk on Halloween, here are some last-minute tips to remember tonight:

🐾  Your dog should be on a leash at all times, and supervised by an adult.

🐾  Ensure your dog wears a collar with updated tags and updated ID information including name, phone number and/or address. This is critical in case he/she gets lost.

🐾  Use a reflective vest or reflective collar on your dog. My favorite is the NiteHowl LED safety necklace. This pet necklace can be adjusted (cut) to fit your dog’s neck. It will fit any dog – small to large from 12″ to 27″. Please note that it should be worn in addition to their collar with the proper ID and contact information. This is not as a substitute for a regular collar or harness. You can use these LED collars every time you take your dog for a walk at night.

🐾  Do not forget your poop bags to clean up!

🐾  Do not allow anyone to offer or give your pup candy or let your dog eat candy from the ground. Instead, bring your dog’s favorite treats.

🐾  Keep in mind that even if your dog is well-adjusted, she can be frightened by the noise and excitement of your neighborhood on Halloween. If your dog looks uncomfortable, it may be best to keep Fido tucked in his crate. For more tips, look at our previous blog on “4 Ways to Curb Your Dog’s Anxiety this Halloween Season”.
