5 Fun Summer Activities For You and Your Dog

Summer is finally here! There are so many ways you can enjoy some fun in the sun with your furry friend. Does your dog not like the pool? That’s ok, splashing around is not the only summer activity dogs can do with you. Depending on your dog, and your personal preferences, a quick outing might do the trick. Always bring them water, dog treats, their favorite toys, and something to pick up their droppings.

Here is a list of 5 activities you can do this summer:

Take a Trip to the Local Farmer’s Market

This is a great way for your dog to get a few hours out of the house and get used to crowds. If your dog gets skittish around too many people, I suggest going early in the morning. Most locations are fine with dogs present, but always be sure to check first. Some vendors might even have a special treat for your furry friend.

Eat at a Dog-Friendly Restaurant

Depending on where you live, you can find a handful of different restaurants that are pet-friendly and even have a designated menu safe for them. Nothing says bonding more than over food.

Explore a Hike Trail

You can find hiking trails of all levels whether it is in the woods or by the beach. This is a great opportunity for you and your furry friend to get some steps in and much-needed outdoor time. Most trails require that your dog remains on a leash, so always pack one as a precaution.

Road Trip

A road trip is not ideal for all dogs and you should definitely talk with your local vet before doing so if your dog suffers from any health conditions. Also, some dogs are more prone to car sickness, therefore, stopping frequently would be key to avoiding any messes. If your dog loves the car ride and sticks its head out for a nice breeze, always make sure they are secured by a dog seat belt or harness.

Watch a Movie at the Drive-in

On a warm summer night, a drive-in movie theatre is a great way to spend time with your dog. Locations may vary in which they allow dogs to come; be sure to check with your local drive-in first and see what rules are in place for doing so.
