Howlidays are not only an excellent time to make a fashion statement with your ugly sweater, but it is also a great time be thankful and pay it forward.
While it may not be a great idea to take your dog to the local food pantry, there are plenty of options to help other doggies. Here are five simple ways to pay it forward and facilitate some dogs find a love connection with a human.
🐾 A free walk. Call your local shelter and ask whether you could offer your time to walk some of their dogs. Any furry four-legged dog will be thrilled to spend few minutes with you. This is a pawesome howliday gift for a dog!
🐾 Donate wish list items. If you are short on time, you could donate wish list items such as food, doggie toys, treats, laundry detergent, and crates. Many rescue groups keep an online wish list; you can find out if your local center participates in this type of pawgram and provide them some needed items.
🐾 Donate gently used items. No time to go shopping? No worries. Walk around your home – I am sure you can find some used blankets, sheets and towels that you can give away. Also, some centers use newspaper as well – a great way to recycle your old reading material!
🐾 Give a car ride. If you have a car, you could offer a ride. Nonprofit organizations typically rely on a small network of volunteers to handle all their needs. One of those needs is pet transportation to vets, shelters, foster homes and training facilities. Get a waterproof back seat cover and give a ride to a furry friend. Find a rescue organization in your community and register to join the transport committee.
🐾 Sponsor a pet. Vaccinations and medical checkups are always needed. You can make a tax-deductible donation of vaccinations or sponsor a vet visit. Call your local rescue center. I’m sure they will welcome a helping paw.
The Howlidays are not all about the presents, but…if you are in the giving mood, remember to keep your furry friend on your list. If you need ideas, take a look at the Holiday Gift List I created last week including interactive toys and healthy treats.
